AI visibility
AI traffic vs AI Tracker
The most common mix-up: visits from chats versus citation tests.
The two sections answer different questions. Traffic → AI assistants asks “did a person come from AI?”. AI Results Tracker asks “does the brand appear when we test a specific phrase?”.
- AI traffic
- GA referral sessions, behavior and key events.
- AI Tracker
- Cited/mentioned/missing status by engine, keyword and date.
- Google AI Overview
- A SERP feature; not equal to a ChatGPT referral.
Four normal scenarios
- There is traffic, no Tracker data: nobody has run an AI check.
- There is a Tracker citation, no traffic: users did not click or the referrer is missing.
- There are both: visibility exists and some people visit.
- There are neither: check configuration, data freshness and content fit.
A correct report
- 1Show the AI visibility rate/statuses
From the Tracker.
- 2Show the AI referral sessions
From GA.
- 3Show key events
Only if they are configured.
- 4Add the limitations
Referrer loss and the instability of LLM answers.
Questions & answers
Why does ChatGPT cite me manually, but the Tracker shows “missing”?
Wording, date, model, personalization and sampling can differ.
Can I see other people’s conversations?
No. The Tracker sends controlled test phrases; it has no access to visitors’ conversations.
