Rankings
A complete guide to checks, KPIs, buckets, tabs, history, URL, AI and delta.
“Rankings” measures the selected keywords in a standardized market and device. This is not the personalized result in your own browser.
Main actions
- Check rankings
- Runs a Google/Bing SERP check according to search engines, devices and depth.
- AI on demand
- Runs the permitted AI engines according to scope; does not run SERP.
- + Add keywords
- Opens adding to the current project.
- Checked today
- Shows whether there is a completed snapshot today; does not guarantee that all sources are refreshed.
Distribution buckets
- All
- All rows after the other filters.
- Top 1
- Exactly the first organic position.
- Top 3
- Positions 1–3.
- Top 5
- Positions 1–5.
- Top 10
- Positions 1–10; includes Top 1, Top 3 and Top 5.
- Top 30
- Positions 1–30.
- >100
- Not found within the tracked depth. It counts in the distribution but does not take part in the average position.
KPI cards
- Avg. position (ranked / total)
- Left: average mobile position for ranked keywords only. Right: total rank — 100+ counts as 101. ▲/▼ refers to the total.
- Organic traffic
- A connected traffic KPI, not a forecast from volume.
- % in top 10
- The share of keywords with a position of 1–10.
- SERP features
- The number/presence of special blocks in the results.
Chart
The chart shows the average position over time. The legend includes only devices with real checks — if there is no desktop data, Desktop is not shown. A smaller position is better.
Tabs and search
- Classic SERP. The Google AI column is shown only if AI Overview is enabled.
- Bing
- A separate tab — only if a Bing search engine has been added (it is no longer mixed with Google).
- ChatGPT
- Tab and column only if ChatGPT has been added to the project.
- Gemini
- Tab and column only if Gemini has been added to the project.
- All
- A combined view that does not assume AI status is a rank.
- Search by phrase…
- The field is right above the table. It filters rows by phrase as you type; clear it to see all.
Columns
- Keyword
- The exact tracked phrase.
- Volume
- A monthly market estimate. Under the number, “ads LOW/MED/HIGH” is the Google Ads competition from Keyword Planner — it does not show whether ads are currently in the SERP and is not SEO difficulty.
- Checked
- The last date the positions were checked (mobile). It is not the date of the volume.
- Historical dates
- Previous snapshots; the newest day is leftmost. The header stays visible when you scroll down the table. On a narrow screen the daily columns scroll horizontally. Drag the right edge of the header to adjust the width.
- mob Δ
- Change in the mobile position; movement toward a smaller number is an improvement.
- Ranking URL
- The URL from the domain that ranked.
- Google AI / ChatGPT / Gemini
- Status from an AI check. Click the header to sort: cited → mentioned → missing → no data.
History and 100+
“100+” does not mean an exactly measured position 101. It means “not found in the organic results for the set depth in a valid check”. If it says “invalid”, the provider returned an unreliable SERP (a truncated list, social noise or a sharp change of competitors) — that day is not counted as a drop; the position stays from the last valid check. In “Avg. position” the left number (ranked) skips 100+; the right one (total) includes them as 101.
Ranking URL and On-page
Next to the Ranking URL there may be an On-page check. This is an on-demand action on click — it draws from the wallet only when you start it — and it checks the specific ranked URL. See On-page check.
Practical analysis
- 1Filter Google and Mobile
Start with the main measurement context.
- 2Choose Top 10 or >100
Top 10 is for defending; >100 is for missing/new pages.
- 3Review mob Δ and Ranking URL
Check whether the right page is ranking.
- 4Look at SERP features
An organic position can be good while the visible one is pushed down.
- 5Compare the AI tabs separately
AI status is not a numeric SERP position.
Questions & answers
Why does Top 10 include the Top 3 keywords?
Buckets are cumulative.
Why do I see 100+ even though I can find the site manually?
The check goes through DataForSEO Google Organic Regular: google.bg, the set device, the project location, without your Google account. Manual search is often personalized. Only the site’s domain counts — a Facebook/YouTube page of the brand does not count as the site. With an unreliable SERP (truncated, social noise, sharp change of competitors) the system makes 1 retry and if it is still bad, it records “invalid”, without a false 100+.
What does “invalid” mean for positions?
The provider returned a SERP that does not pass the quality checks (a truncated list, social noise or a sharp change of competitors). That day is not used for rank/forecast/Δ — we compare with the next valid day. The KPIs show the last valid position. On the row, “update manually” runs a fast Live check for just that phrase; “Recheck invalid” runs all of them through the Standard queue. You can leave low volume to the automatic check.
Why do some stay invalid after “Check rankings”?
Before the fix, a valid and an invalid check for the day were counted equally as “done”. Now the ones invalid for today are run again automatically. If the retry is also bad, it stays “invalid” until the next check.
Why did the average position get worse after adding keywords?
New not-found keywords do not enter the average position, but they reduce the % in top 10. Also compare the unchanged core.
Is the Google AI column the same as ChatGPT?
No. Google AI comes from AI Overview in the SERP; ChatGPT is a separate LLM check.
